BOOGIE WOOGIE PIANO PLAYERS

Oyvind Stolefjell

I was born in 1982, in Arendal, Norway. Started out playing piano at an early age, but it wasnt until i was a teenager that I found the joy in learning new songs, and developing my style. Ive recently begun to sing, but I always felt that the music came more natural to me. Lyrics, stories and vocals vere never that important, but I have learned to observe, listen and learn. My first public appearances happened at private parties around seven years ago. More recently I had the huge pleasure of playing piano for Louisiana Red and the Blues Masters. Featuring Paul Lamb, and two well known blues players from my own country. I came there with no rehearsal, and firsh shook hands with Red on the stage. Ive had the chance to play with Smittys Corner, a blues band which has been active for around 35 years, I think. Kurt Slevigen (famous blues man from Norway), Ronnie Jacobsen, Richard Gjems and Kid Andersen, who I played piano for on Ronnie's San Jose Sessions (recorded in Kid Andersen's Greaseland in San Jose outside of San Francisco and released on Aug 1, 2009. Featuring guests like Gary Smith and Rusty Zinn.) Ive sat in with rockers Stephen Ackles and Rex Rudi, which is something completely different. And I have enjoyed jamming and playing with a lot of great people, piano players, guitar players etc. Blues, and especially Chicago style blues has been my main genre lately, but I play some early jazz, rocknroll, and even country music. My boogie woogie style doesnt come from Albert Ammons, as much as it does from Little Brother Montgomery, Roosevelt Sykes, Sunnyland Slim, Memphis Slim, and Otis Spann. My blues style also adapt a whole lot from those guys.
